China’s national-level leader in genetic counseling education and clinical genomics research
Huakang Gene Research Institute (HKGRI) is a non-profit research institution officially registered with the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau (Registration No. 0030326). Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Zhongguancun, Beijing’s leading science and technology hub, HKGRI is dedicated to genomic technology research, clinical translation, and industrial innovation.
The Institute operates a licensed medical testing laboratory equipped with advanced genomics platforms and international-standard instrumentation. Our proprietary BestSeq™ technology platform delivers accurate, cost-effective, and high-throughput detection of hundreds of pathogenic genes. These include panels for epilepsy, intellectual disability, and other genetic conditions. BestSeq™ has already been applied in clinical collaborations with leading hospitals such as Peking University First Hospital.
Under the leadership of President Wei Wei, HKGRI brings together a research team that includes internationally trained scientists with experience in top institutions across Europe, the U.S., and Asia. The team has published in journals such as Science and Circulation, and completed landmark projects in genetic testing for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To date, HKGRI has developed over 1,500 genetic diagnostic products spanning cardiovascular disease, oncology, neurology, and rare disorders.
To advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of genetic diseases by bridging international standards with China’s unique clinical resources.
The only accredited national-level training programs for genetic counselors in China.
Continuing education for clinicians, harmonized with NSGC/ABGC/ACGC frameworks.
Bootcamps and outreach programs for Chinese high school students.
Longitudinal patient datasets enabling new insights into polygenic risk, cancer genomics, and rare diseases.

Huakang is inviting global experts to join our Advisory Board to guide education, research, and international collaboration.
Huakang Gene Research Institute is located in the core of Beijing Zhongguancun Science Park. For more than a decade, the Institute has focused on molecular medicine research and clinical diagnostics, operating a licensed laboratory specializing in cellular and molecular genetics.
Through its technical expertise, HKGRI has partnered with leading hospitals to carry out projects on hundreds of single-gene disorders across multiple medical specialties. Many of these initiatives have filled critical gaps in China’s clinical practice and now stand at an internationally leading level.
The Institute’s BestSeq™ pathogenic gene detection technology, based on high-throughput sequencing with optimized target capture, combines accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. It is emerging as a new-generation platform for genetic and disease research worldwide.
